Following a year of post-secondary studies in his hometown of Vienna, Dominik wanted to experience the excitement of studying abroad. “I grew up and lived in Austria my whole life. During my first year of university there, I didn’t feel like I was where I wanted to be. So I came to the Sauder School of Business and North America to pursue one of my greatest passions – football.”

Achieving balance

Dominik believes his athletic pursuits have helped him excel in other areas of post-secondary life. “Athletics presents different challenges, but gives you a great balance. Playing sports provides you with strength and energy because it relieves the stress from school – it mixes up my everyday routine.”

Mentoring peers

Dominik is proud to give back to the Sauder community through peer-to- peer mentorship in the classroom. “I really love to spend my time as a Teaching Assistant for COMM 202: Career Fundamentals. It excites me that I can contribute to the success of other people. This course helps students develop basic skills that they will need in their professional lives. Through unique course offerings, Sauder provides a holistic approach to teaching. Students learn the necessary skills to be successful in the business community.”

Seeking new perspectives

Taking advantage of one of Sauder’s many international learning opportunities, Dominik spent six weeks in China completing the Shanghai Summer Program. “It was a wonderful experience where I witnessed business practices first hand in another country. The combination of business classes and company visits in Shanghai expanded my horizons. It wasn’t until I was there that I realized the scale of the country and that North America is no longer the centre of the business world.”
