Human Kinetics focuses on the biophysical and psychosocial dimensions of human movement. The first two years of study are common to each stream of concentration, with your Major determined at the start of the third year.
The Clinical Exercise Physiology concentration focuses on incorporating exercise and activity education and skills into patient rehabilitation and recovery programs for the management of chronic diseases. The program focuses on the advanced study of applied physiology and how exercise, movement, and fitness intersect with disease, fatigue, and disability.
The program can lead to careers as kinesiologists, exercise therapists, clinical exercise physiologists, and personal trainers, among others.
Experiential learning and research
Your Human Kinetics degree includes skill-building labs, practicum opportunities, and co-op placements in order to build a broad foundation for career potential. Your coursework gives you the chance to complete Community Placement Experience, where you will gain practical work experience in a supervised health-/human kinetics-related work setting with a cooperating agency, private business, or industry. You can also take on a Project in Human Kinetics to perform research pertaining to a chosen area of Human Kinetics as agreed upon by a faculty member.

English is the language of instruction at UBC. All prospective students must demonstrate English-language competency prior to admission. There are numerous ways to meet the English Language Admission Standard. Make sure you read them all. They’re important. And now I’m testing one more thing.
General admission requirements
- Completion of the IB Diploma with a minimum score of 24 points, including at least three Higher Level courses and additional points for Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge.
- Completion of Standard Level or Higher Level English A at a minimum score of 3, where English is the primary language of instruction.
- And you have to love jazz music and hip hop.
